BLACKSTON, CMC Charles  http://www.cprw11.navy.mil/index.php?id=31&secid=8 "...Master Chief Blackston enlisted in the United States Navy in February 1977, and attended Recruit Training at Naval Training Center, Orlando, Florida. After the completion of AE Class "A" School in Millington, TN, he was assigned to Training Squadron SEVEN (VT-7), NAS Meridian, MS. Released from active duty in December 1980, he re-enlisted in the Navy in February 1984. Upon reentering the Navy, he attended AE Class "C" School, NAS Millington, Tennessee. Afterwards, he attended Naval Aircrewman Candidate School, Pensacola and P-3 Flight Engineer School, NAS Jacksonville, Florida. His next assignment was to VP-49, NAS Jacksonville, Florida. He served as primary NATOPS instructor for the flight engineer position and deployed to NAS Sigonella, Sicily, NAS Bermuda, and back to NAS Sigonella, Sicily. Following his first VP tour, he was selected for assignment to the P-3 Fleet Replacement Squadron, VP-30, NAS Jacksonville, Florida. Here he served as classroom instructor, Fleet IUT (Instructor Under Training) Instructor, Foreign Military Sales (FMS), Instructor, VP-30 primary NATOPS/Alternate CNAL evaluator, and primary CNAL evaluator. During this demanding tour, he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer. His next posting was to VP-16, NAS Jacksonville, Florida. While assigned, he advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer and served as the Line Division CPO, QA Division SCPO, and Safety/NATOPS Department SCPO. Here he completed a tri-site deployment to NS Roosevelt Roads, PR, NAS Keflavik, Iceland and Panama as well as a Mediterranean deployment to NAS Sigonella, Sicily. In May of 1997, he reported to the Naval Force Aircraft Test Squadron (Force Warfare), NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. Initially assigned as the VP Maintenance Division SCPO, he assumed the role of CMC after being advanced to Master Chief in April of 1998. Following his tour at Force Warfare, he was selectively assigned to the Bureau of Personnel, Sea Duty Component, Dallas, TX, where he served as the Command Master Chief. In April 2002, he reported to VP-8, NAS Brunswick, Maine as the Command Master Chief. VP-8 deployed to NAS Sigonella, Sicily from February to August 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Additionally, VP-8 deployed to Japan from December 2004 to June 2005, a first for an east coast VP squadron since the mid 1980's. Master Chief Blackston started his current assignment as Command Master Chief of CPRW-11 in August 2005. Master Chief Blackston is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (April 2000). During this tour, I served as an Antisubmarine Warfare Operations Center (ASWOC) watch officer, a Weapons System Trainer (WST) instructor, and the Mission Control & Evaluation (MC & E) Officer. I earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of North Florida in 1991. I transferredred to the Naval Reserve in August 1991, affiliating with VP-62. During my tenure at VP-62, I held positions as Training Officer, assistant Admin Officer, Tactics Officer, Maintenance Admin Officer, and Executive Assistant. He attended the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned in 1983. Completing flight training in March 1985, he was designated a Naval Flight Officer. Following P-3 refresher training, he reported to the "War Eagles" of VP-16 for department head duty in July 1995. During this tour he served as Command Services Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Maintenance Officer deploying to NS Roosevelt Roads, PR; NAS Keflavik, Iceland; and NAS Sigonella, Sicily. In May 1997, Commander Freitag reported to Commander, Task Force Eighty-Four in Norfolk, VA where he served as the Force Requirements Officer. In September 2000, Commander Freitag reported to USS Nimitz as Weapons Officer and Force Protection Officer, completing an Atlantic to Pacific inter-fleet transferred while onboard. In May 2002, Commander Freitag reported to Supreme, Allied Commander Atlantic, where he became lead NATO Strategic Exercise planner. GALLO, REAR ADMIRAL S. He was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy in November 1958. His first assignment was aboard the USS Estes (AGC-12) home ported in San Diego, California where he served as Main Propulsion Assistant until July 1960. Rear Admiral Gallo commenced flight training and was designated a Naval Aviator in October 1961. After designation, he reported to VP-23 in NAS Brunswick, Maine, flying the P2V Neptune, serving there until June 1965. He then reported to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, where he received a Master's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering (AeE) in June 1968. His next assignment was as Communications Officer on the staff of Commander Carrier Division TWENTY, initially aboard USS ESSEX and later aboard USS INTREPID. After the decommissioning of CARDIV TWENTY, Admiral Gallo reported as Communications Officer to the staff of COMCARDIV FOURTEEN aboard USS WASP where he served until January l971. Rear Admiral Gallo next reported to VP-30 for transition to the P-3 Orion en route VP-11 in NAS Brunswick, Maine, where he served as Safety Officer and Operations Officer. In 1973, Rear Admiral Gallo attended the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, designated as a Distinguished Graduate. After refresher training at VP-30, he reported to VP-24 as Executive Officer and subsequently Commanding Officer, serving until December 1976. He then reported to the staff of CPW-5 as Operations Officer, serving until February 1979. His next assignment was to the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington, D.C., as P-3 Program Coordinator until April 1980 when he became the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Air Warfare) until June 1981. He was then ordered as CPW-11 from July 1981 to August 1982. Following his tour with CPW-11, he served as Executive Assistant to the Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic; Commander in Chief, U.S. Atlantic Command; and Commander in Chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet until June 1985 when he was promoted to flag rank and assigned as Commander Patrol Wings, U.S. Atlantic Fleet in Brunswick, Maine. Rear Admiral Gallo assumed command of Fleet Air Mediterranean, Maritime Air Forces Mediterranean and Maritime Surveillance and Reconnaissance Forces, U.S. Sixth Fleet (CTF-67) in July 1987 in NAF Naples, Italy. He returned to Washington, D.C. in January 1990 as Deputy Chief of Naval Personnel in which position he served until his retirement from the Navy in September 1993. Graduated from Naval War College in 1980 and received orders to PACFLT at CPW-2 Hawaii from 80-81. Met, later to be VADM, Mike Haskins and worked for him in the Training Department until taking over Wing Admin. Dept Head tour followed with VP-6 (Ops Officer) 83-84. Next was another staff tour at CPW-1/CTF-72 in Japan as Current Ops under CDR John Brockley. I later took over the job of Task Force Operations Officer from 85-86. Most of you won't know of the tail of the "Broccoli Marauders" of the 1975 NAF Kadena, Okinawa, Japan deployment what a time that was and works display that we put on for the Air Farce when we were leaving. Upon completion of nuclear training, he was selected for the Navy Enlisted Scientific Education program in April 1973. He received his commission in June 1976 following graduation from the University of Louisville, where he earned a B.S. in Mathematics. Upon completion of flight training, he was designated a Naval Aviator in June 1977. He served as the CTG 67.2 Operations Officer and Officer-in-Charge of the Lajes detachment during a deployment to NS Rota, Spain - NAF Lajes, Azores, Portugal. Following deployment, he was assigned as the Maintenance Officer, serving through the first simultaneous deployment to NAS Bermuda; NS Roosevelt Roads, PR; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; and UNITAS XXXI. Captain High then attended the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, where he received his Master's Degree. In May 1992 he reported to VP-8 as Executive Officer and served as Commanding Officer from June 1993 to June 1994. During this tour, VP-8 received the CINCLANTFLEET Golden Anchor Retention Award. Following his CO tour, Captain High completed a Joint Duty assignment at United States Space Command in Colorado Springs, Colorado, from July 1994 until May 1997. He was initially assigned as the Head of the Space Systems Branch for Space Launch, responsible for acquisition of the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle, within the Plans and Policy Directorate and completed this tour as the Navy Element Commander for the Manpower and Personnel Directorate. Additionally, from December 1995 to May 1996 he was temporarily assigned to the Implementation Forces (IFOR) in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina as the Joint Operation Center Shift Director. Attended FASOLant and VP-30 at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. Anyone remember the mexican food place outside Lexington Park?? Heard it burned down, to bad great food. Roger Schorr went to NAS Brunswick, Maine, thank goodness LOL and I transferredred to VP-24 at their home base at NAS Jacksonville, Florida, while the squadron was finishing it's NAS Keflavik, Iceland deployment which started at NAS Norfolk, Virginia as I recall. From 73 to 78, I was with VP-24 at NAS Jacksonville, Florida and numerous deployments to various sites; NAS Keflavik, Iceland, NAS Sigonella, Sicily, NAS Bermuda and other assorted sites. Next duty station was CPW-11 at NAS Jacksonville, Florida, not so exciting as VP flight hours and on top sub time, just many long shifts and office politics. My next tour was a real eye opener, HS1 FASO NAS Jacksonville, Florida and training in the H3 ASW Helo which sets one for up for HS duty or in my case ASW Module duty onboard USS Kitty Hawk at San Diego. Remained onboard the Hawk for three years and one direct submarine contact with a Victor III in the Sea of Japan. The prop blade left in the Hawk's starboard bow revealed lots of data, until WO Walker's deal with the enemy. In January 86, it was off to CPW-1 Det NAS Misawa, Japan. It was my last duty station in the Navy, retirement followed in January of 1989. It's hard to believe that I used to do HF radio check in NAS Keflavik, Iceland with some Air Force Electronics HF site, go figure? I started out as an MSR (Mad/Sniffer/Radar) operator, and cross trained as a Julie/ECM operator, and a Jezebel operator in the P-3B platform. After the P-3C was introduced I was a SS-3 (Non-Acoustic) operator and crosstrained again as a SS-1 (Acoustic) operator. I was an instructor at VP-30 and the AirLant NATOPS evalutaor for both P-3B and P-3C Non-Acoustics. I made deployments to NAS Keflavik, Iceland (2), NAS Bermuda (2), and Sunny NAS Sigonella, Sicily (2), as well as numerous Dets to the NAF Lajes, Azores, Portugal, NS Roosevelt Roads, PR, and other fine places. I truly miss the excitement of flying and mostly the many friends I made over the years. I was forced to change rate to AEC due to knee injury and was permanently grounded in 1986. I completed my last few years as a Recruiter (Pennsylvania) and at AIMD NAS Cecil Field, Jacksonville, Florida. In April 1988, Captain Love reported to Naval Air Reserve Jacksonville, Florida, where he served as a program manager and as the Deputy Reserve Program Director. He joined VP-62 in February 1989. While attached to VP-62, he was designated as a Naval Air Reserve Force P-3C UIII NATOPS evaluator and was selected by the Association of Naval Aviation as the 1990 Jacksonville Reserve Naval Flight Officer of the Year. Captain Love detached from VP-62 in May 1991 to join the staff of Commander, Reserve Patrol Wing Pacific. While attached to the wing he served as Operations Officer. It was during this tour he was selected to serve as a squadron Officer-in-Charge. He reported to VP-69 in July 1993 where he served as Officer-in-Charge from October 1993 to July 1995. In August 1995, he reported to CPW-11 as the Operational Support Officer. In July 1997, he reported to the staff of Commander, Naval Air Reserve Force where he served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations responsible for 19,000 Naval Air Reservists and over 250 aircraft. In September 1999, he was assigned as Executive Officer of Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, Fort Worth. Captain Love reported back to the staff of Commander, Naval Air Force Reserve in September 2001 where he was assigned as Chief of Staff. Captain Love has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal with gold star, Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal with two bronze stars, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and various unit awards. In January 1991, Captain Moran reported to CPW-11, NAS Jacksonville, Florida to serve as the Safety Officer and Assistant Maintenance Officer. In the summer of 1992, he reported to VP-45 for his Department Head tour deploying to NAS Keflavik, Iceland / NAS Sigonella, Sicily and serving as Safety/NATOPS and Operations Officer. In the spring of 1994, Captain Moran reported to VP-30 to assume duties as the Senior AIRLANT Evaluator and Model Manager for Maritime Patrol Aviation. Captain Moran reported to the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington DC in May 1995 to begin a two year tour as Assistant Washington Placement Officer before assuming duties as the Assistant Flag Detailer for a third and final year of duty at BUPERS. In May 1998, Captain Moran reported to VP-46 as Executive Officer and immediately deployed with the squadron to NAF Misawa, Japan / NAF Kadena, Okinawa, Japan. As Commanding Officer, he led the squadron on a deployment to NSF Diego Garcia, Masirah, Oman, and NSA Bahrain that included numerous detachments throughout FIFTH and SEVENTH Fleets. The squadron was recognized for its support for contingency operations, and its work with SLAM and Maverick Missile systems, mission planning, target folders and Maritime Interdiction Operations. I got to bring 5" Zuni rockets, MK-20 Rockeye clusterbombs, and Mk-82 GP bombs back into the inventory. I left CPW-11 for my P-3 appreciation tour aboard USS JOHN F. KENNEDY, and was qualified Tactical Action Officer in time to launch the first strikes of DESERT STORM. I completed the course at the Naval War College and did my Department Head tour in VP-26 ( NAS Brunswick, Maine). I was Safety, Training, and Admin and deployed twice more to NAS Sigonella, Sicily before detaching for Naval Space Command. I just retired on 31 July, and now have to find one of those "Jobs!" ..." Ryan, Jr., graduated from the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned an Ensign in June 1967. He began flight training in August 1967 and was designated a naval aviator in October 1968. Assigned to VP-8 from 1969 to 1972, Rear Admiral Ryan participated in three Atlantic Deployments as well as several detachments to the Mediterranean and Pacific in support of special operations. Rear Admiral Ryan was assigned to the Officer of the Commandant of Midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy from 1972 to 1975. During this tour, he received a Master of Science Degree in Personnel Management from the George Washington University in Washington, DC. He reported to Commander, Carrier Group SIX in September 1975, serving as Flag Secretary and aide while the staff was embarked on six different carriers for deployments, exercises and carrier workups. Captain Sinnett reported for duty to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron ONE (VX-1), NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, in May 1988, where he served as Quality Assurance Division Officer, Assistant Maintenance Officer and Operational Test Director for various P-3C and H-60 projects. In August 1990, Captain Sinnett reported for duty onboard the USS SARATOGA (CV 60) based at Naval Station Mayport, FL, where he was assigned as Catapult and Arresting Gear Officer/V-2 Division Officer. While attached to SARATOGA, he participated in several fleet exercises, two Mediterranean deployments, Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In September 1992, Captain Sinnett reported for temporary duty on the staff of CPW-11, where he worked as Watch Officer and Assistant Operations Officer. In November 1993, Captain Sinnett reported to VP-46 for his Department Head tour. While assigned to the "Grey Knights," he made deployments to NAF Misawa, Japan, and NSF Diego Garcia. During his tour, he served as Safety/NATOPS Officer, Aircraft Maintenance Officer and Operations Officer. While attached to VP-46, he was selected as the Association of Naval Aviation's Pacific Fleet Maritime Patrol Aviator of the Year. In September 1995, Captain Sinnett reported for duty at CPW-11, where he served as Maintenance Officer and Operations Officer. In March 1999, Captain Sinnett reported to VP-45 as the Executive Officer and assumed command of the squadron in March 2000. While Commanding Officer, the squadron completed a deployment to NAS Sigonella, Sicily, participating in operations in Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Captain Sinnett reported to the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Millington, TN, in March 2001 where he served as the VP / VQ Commander detailer. Upon graduation from Basic Training in Orlando, Florida, he transferredred to Millington, Tennessee for Aviation Ordnanceman "A" School. In August 1976, he commenced his first sea assignment onboard VP-5. He completed deployments to NAS Sigonella, Sicily, and NAS Keflavik, Iceland. In December 1979, he reported for shore duty to the "Pro's Nest" of VP-30 as the Ordnance Night Check Supervisor. After completion of Aircrew Candidate School, Master Chief Williams earned his Naval Aircrew wings in November of 1982. He later transferredred to the "Batmen" of VP-24 as an in-flight ordnanceman. While there he was selected as a Squadron Ordnance NATOPS Evaluator. Master Chief Williams's next assignment was as a Recruit Company Commander at Great Lakes, Illinois, from July 1985 to January 1989. He successfully trained five Rifle Companies, four Ceremonial Units, and 15 Ceremonial Drill Team Units (three earning the coveted "Hall of Fame" Award). He was twice selected as the distinguished leader of the graduating companies, and subsequently selected as the Recruit Training Command and Naval Training Center 1987 Sailor of the Year. In January 1989, Master Chief Williams received orders to the "Pelicans" of VP-45 as the Ordnance Branch Chief Petty Officer. After a successful sea tour with the "Pelicans" he reported to CPW-11 as Assistant Weapons Officer and Training Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. Master Chief Williams received orders in May 1995 to the Pre-commissioning Unit for USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74) serving as the Weapons Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. In November 1996, he assumed duties as Command Master Chief of the World Famous BULLS of VFA-37 and deployed to the Mediterranean aboard the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71). In November 1998, Master Chief Williams reported as the Command Master Chief of Commander Helicopter Anti-Submarine Light Wing, U. S. Atlantic Fleet. In July 2001, Master Chief Williams was selected as Command Master Chief for the "Mad Foxes" of VP-5. He attended Horace Mann High School, Gary, Indiana, and on September 18, 1934 enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He was appointed Machinist on May 7, 1941 and after flight training was designated Naval Aviator on March 21, 1942. He vas commissioned Ensign on June 15, 1942 and subsequently advanced in rank to that of Lieutenant, to date from July 1, 1944. The next month he joined Headquarters Squadron, CPW-11 (designation changed to FAW-11 in November 1942) and while serving with that unit participated in the North-African Campaign.
