My Dad passed away in 2015 at the age of 93, still sharp as a tack, remembering an amazing amount of detail of his time in VP-94, before and after. A majority of Dad's time with VP-94 was spent at NAF Belem, Brazil (12/1943-12/1944) becoming a 1st pilot in October of 1944. Dad married my Mother right after the war and was married for 60 years until she passed away. I was the youngest of his 3 kids. He retired as a LCDR in 1962. I made two dets to NAS Keflavik, Iceland, and one to NAF Lajes, Azores, Portugal. I left there as an ADRAN, and went to VA-65 at Oceana, VA. I have fun memories of standing out in the ice and snow during a new engine jug "run-in", and heading out to the "south 40" with my doghouse toolbox in tow!! I remember the Tail-less wonders parked near the hanger for the entire 19 months I was there! I remember the MANY nights we spent in the 103 Club with the "hardhats" at the exits!! (for good reason)! I also remember the Spring and Summer trips to St. John's, and drinking a bit of "Pinky". Trips to the dancehalls outside the gate and going to the "Newfy stomps" will always be a part my fun memories. I was in "Maintenance Team C" during most of my tour, and my barracks overlooked the 103 Club. My best buddy was Tom Bastain or Bastian ADR3, from New Hampshire who was considered the undefeated arm wrestler of the denizens of the 103 Club! I left the Regular Navy in 1963, but returned to the reserves several years later. I retired from JRB Ft. Worth TX, in March 2001, at age 60. I served with COMFAIRWESTPAC as the Assistant Maintenance Officer and was CWO4 at the time of my retirement. I also retired from Raytheon Aircraft Corporation as a Design Standards Engineer, this last December. I would love to hear from anyone who served in VW-11, especially during the time I served. Was wih VP-61 till relieved 11/43 . 1944 was at NAS North Island, San Diego, California. Then up to Oak Harbor and formed crew that ended up with VPB-23 NAS Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii-Saipan-Iwo Jima Ulithi NAS Agana, Guam and Pelieu then home.
