KNEE, Charles Wm. Jr. ONAIDH@AOL.COM "...I served with VP-28, from 1952-54, as a combat aircrewman in the P2V2 as a tailgunner. This was a proud time in my life. It was made especially good to find that the Home Base for the squadron was NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii. We traveled between NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii, Naha, OK., and NAS Kodiak, Alaska, on a routine basis. There were some really great sailors in that squadron and I was proud to have served with them. I was especially proud to have been able to servie in such a distinquished naval squadron. VP-28 has been in my thoughts all these years. I have looked every month in the VFW magazine for a Reunion of VP-28. I am delighted to see that it is finally there. Let me know when and where. My son joined the Navy right out of High School in order to earn enough to pay for his college education. He went right into naval aviation...saying that it was my "stories" about serving with VP-28 that made him choose naval aviation. He was an avionics/third when he left the navy to go to college. He wore my Korean combat aircrew wings while he served..." [07DEC98]

On August 28, 1945, we landed in SagamiBay, Japan. While there we flew over airfields to check aircraft to see if they were flyable. They never allowed to fly over the Emporias Palace. We went back to the States from there...Flew with VP-208 from 2/45 till 9/45. I served under Commander Anton J. Sintic in Air Crew Sugar. Crew Skipper, Q. F.
