HistoryA BIT OF HISTORY: VP-10 History "...Wing Commander Rodney Roach, Commanding Officer of Royal Airforce Squadron 201, presents the ASW All Star Exchange Trophy to Commander Earl Luka, Commanding Officer of VP-10 as British and U. S. Officers and men look on. the Red Lancers of VP-10 won the trophy in "Combat" with the RAF squadron and Patrol Squadron Twenty Six. The trophy was originated by the 405 Maritime Patrol Squadron, Canadian Forces Air Force at Greenwood, Nova Scotia. It was lost by the originators to the 407 Maritime Patrol Squadron, RCAF in Vancouver, British Columbia, and subsequently won by our recent visitors to BNAS, who held it for the past eighteen months...The All Star Trophy is exchange among ASW aircrews or squadrons and must be carried by the squadrons or any squadron detachment when it is away from its home base. Competition for the trophy consists of athletic events such as "hockey, softball, baseball, basketball, bowling, checkers, chess, cricket, or what have you!" As each successive squadron gains possession of the trophy a pin or badge of the squadron insiginia is to be attached. The originators of the trophy hope to eventually regain possession through the above mentioned contests and retire it from competition with the various squadron insignia attached...ASW ALL STAR EXCHANGE TROPHY PHOTO ID FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: RCAF Officer, RCAF Officer, RCAF Officer, LTjg Don Medera USN, RCAF Officer, Wing Commander Rodney Broach RCAF, LTjg George Mutrie, CDR Earl Luka USN, LT George Allender USN, RCAF Officer, LT Craig Campbell USN, LT Tom Fleming USN, and RCAF Officer..." HistoryA BIT OF HISTORY: "...VP-10 RED LANCERS are currently on deployment in the Med and making great strides with the ASUW Improvement Program Aircraft (AIP). It is revolutionizing the VP mission! AIP is performing missions as a valuable overland reconnaissance platform in support of peacekeeping efforts in the Balkans while simultaneously enhancing all of our traditional open ocean and littoral mission capablities. It is truly the cutting edge of maritime patrol aviation and the Battle Group and Amphibous Ready Group/MEU (SOC) commanders are now seeing VP in a whole new light. Am extremely proud to be a part of what will surely be "modern VP history" in the making. The one thing that still holds true is that despite all the technological advances that AIP brings to the aircraft, it is still the dedication, determination and professionalism of the VP crews that make AIP work. And work it does! Hopefully you have all seen the AIP aircraft featured in recent reports on CNN. Almost daily, VP-10 crews are discovering innovative ways to employ AIP and maximize its advanced sensor, communications, and weapons system capabilities. The proud tradition of maritime patrol aviation continues as the RED LANCERS of VP-10 complete the first three weeks of a six-month deployment to NAS Sigonella, Sicily. Will try and provide regular updates on our progress as the deployment progresses. Until next time, keep an eye on CNN and wish us continued success. Sincerely, LCDR Thom Moriarty, VP-10 CAC-6, Unit 60165, FPO AE 09501-5907...LCDR Thom Moriarty tjmoriarty99@yahoo.com..." [20FEB99]
