Crew 30

I scanned three crew pictures from my tour in VP-45 on Crew 30. Interestingly, you already have in your Crew Pages, a picture of Crew 30 just prior to my arrival, contributed by Troy Hammons who was our Radio operator before Tommy Crawford and I joined the crew. I first met Troy in Sigonella and knew him briefly when I joined the squadron and may have flown with him, but I believe he got orders soon after that and was gone. With crewmember changes, we lost "Alpha" status, and had to start over again. I'm very proud that after hard work and constant training flights, we again received "Alpha" status and we were all awarded the Alpha Crew patches. I was told that prior to my assignment to Crew 30, the crew was the first-ever Alpha Crew in a P-3 East Coast fleet; some say the first in the entire P-3 fleet, so we wanted to re-capture that distinction, and while Vince Olstad was our Ops Officer and PPC, we did it. We returned to Jax from Rota in early 1972 and began the transition from P-3A's to P-3C's, so the Alpha designation disappeared again.

The first Crew 30 picture you'll see when you open the file is the last one taken before we transitioned into the P-3C. Pictured are:

Back Row, L to R: Kerry Cameron, Tommy Crawford, Vince Olstad, Frank Milford, Charlie Carter, and Dave Holland. Front Row, L to R: Dave Swift, Lenny Neubauer, Steve Burns, Rich Bartl, and Gary Cassell.

Scroll down to the middle picture, signed by all except Ron Love (2nd from the right, bottom row). Pictured are: Top of ladder, down: Steve Burns, Rich Bartl, Charlie Carter and Tommy Crawford, flanked by Lenny Neubauer (L), and Frank Milford (R). Bottom of ladder, L to R: Ron Tilton, Dave Swift, Bob Kidd, Ron Love, and Bill Brewer.

Scroll down to the last picture, and taken in front of our aircraft (LN-30, BuNo. 151351) are: Back Row, L to R: Dave Swift, Ron Tilton, Bob Kidd, Ron Love, Frank Milford, and Tommy Crawford. Front Row, L to R: Lenny Neubauer, Rich Bartl, Steve Burns, Charlie Carter, and Bill Brewer
