BooksBOOKs: Title: "Sea Stories" by Robert P. Smyth. "For 31 years I was privileged and very proud to get out of bed in the morning and put on the uniform of the United States Navy," says Robert P. Smyth. Sea Stories is about Smyth's 31 years in the US Navy--at sea, in the air and on shore. We are with him when he hears that the Japanese had attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. We are there when he becomes a Naval Aviation Cadet, earns his Navy Wings of Gold, and becomes a flight instructor at Pensacola. We fly with him all over the Western Pacific during World War II. We are there as he serves many years on aircraft carriers, chases Russian submarines above the Arctic Circle, goes around Cape Horn, commands a Navy aircraft squadron in the Mediterranean and a Navy survey ship off Vietnam. "My life in the Navy always seemed like a fantasy story with more to come," he writes. And through it all is woven a love story about the author and his extraordinary Navy wife. Chapter 11 is devoted to his tour in VP-5, and covers the ' 61/' 62 deployment to NAS Keflavik, Iceland and the loss of LA-9 (SEE: In Memorial for lost friends...12JAN62); the ' 62 Cuban Missile Crisis deployments to NAS Guantanamo Bay, Cuba & NS Roosevelt Roads, PR; and the ' 63 deployment to NAS Sigonella, Sicily [26JAN2005]

Here is our pride and joy. The spouse's club from VP-5 designed this beautiful blanket and we would love to share it with as many people as we can. This blanket features all of the patches from each P-3 squadron (VP-5, VP-16, VP-30, VP-45, and VP-62) at NAS Jacksonville, Florida and is 68" (so it's pretty big) . It even has the new patch from VP-45. No detail has been overlooked. This blanket is even more beautiful in person with vivid colors. We think this blanket would make a wonderful gift for the holidays and even a great keepsake for our own service members. A percentage of our proceeds will go to charities such as, Hope Therapy, Humane Society, Quigley House, Childrens Hospitals, and to needy families.

We hope you will all help support these wonderful causes by enjoying your very own patriotic blanket.
