Upon arriving they learned that they were being sent on to NAS Keflavik, Iceland for a six-week classified exercise. Those who participated recall a killer flying schedule and memorably lousy weather; according to Roger McTighe "The weather was mostly Zero Zero but we flew 24 hours for the six weeks and obtained many flight violations from the Air Force for busting minimums....When you can can see two runway lights, launch! .....We got the Zulu in Iceland...." UPDATE "...This P2 P2 is not a -4. This is evident from the absence of the APS-20 radome and the underslung tiptanks, which would be on the -4. Yet it has a 4-bladed prop. Late -2's and (I believe) all -3's had 3-bladed "paddle wheel" props, with blades shaped similarly to later models but 3 blades rather than 4. However, this a/c has the "HE" tail code which did not begin until September 1948. I conclude that this is an early -2 and the photo is taken in late 1948, possibly 1949..."
