BAUMANN, Donald A. dab13133@comcast.net "...I served with VP-801 (1947-1948). I was training on the PBY (1947) at NAS Miami, Florida along with the Coast Guard squadrons. I received my release from the Navy Reserves and transferred to United States Marine Corps, hoping for a chance to continue my training and go to flight school. However the Korean War broke out and I was boots on the ground, no flying for me. When I returned home I was stationed at Cherry Point 3Rd MAW, and we transferred back to Miami, occupied Masters field and Opa-Locka. Brought back some good memories for me I still love that old PBY. My children bought me a model (RC) of the old PBY. I just completed her and am ready to give it a test flight. I put our old squadron number, VP-801, on the aircraft which again brought back fond memories. If any of you know of a VP-801 patch that shows the PBY instead of the P2 I would appreciate you letting me know so then I purchase one for my flight check. I would like to hear from former Shipmates..." [13FEB2012]

DAVIDOW, Mel meldavidow@earthlink.net "...Does anyone have any information on the PB4Y Mobile Training Unit that took 12 planes over a period of time to Saigon, French Indo China during November & December of 1950? I was lead navigator on the first flight of 3. Lt Bob Buchal was the officer-in-charge of the Mobile Training Unit. The other planes were flown by reserve crews recalled for the Korean War, to the best of my recollection. Also, anyone with info on VP-801, NARTU Miami? I was in that squadron from 1954 when I left active duty until 1956 when I transferred to HS-801. VP-801 was the first reserve squadron to have their two weeks annual active duty training take place overseas - we based at NAF Port Lauytey (spelling?) in North Africa..." [06DEC98]
