Note NOTICE: History ThumbnailCameraVX-6 Pin "...My dad was a career USN officer (he served in VQ-2 during the 70's. I recently found this pin. It is obviously for VX-6 and probably associated with Operation Deep Freeze. I suspect that this was an item that may have been worn by a technical representative or civilian contractor, rather than the military personnel. I also believe that this may have been used in the late 1950's-early 1960's? Any ID help would be appreciated..." Contributed by Patrick Frost pfrost@ucla.edu [22DEC2020]

Note NOTICE: "...I have come across your site while trying to find the significance of a signed postal cover that my Dad collected. The cover has a cachet that says: Flown from McMurdo Station to Dome "c" aboard VXE-6 aircraft on November 5, 1975. It is signed next to a designation of "A/C", by D. A Deslow. My dad was a career Navy man. One of the last of the true Mustangs, he developed an interest in antarctic activities from my son who is a Coast Guardsman who was a crew member of the Polar Sea 1983 during its Operation Deepfreeze cruise to Antartica in 1983. My question is what is the meaning of A/C on the cover and where is "Dome C?" I would appreciate hearing of any information about this so that I can append the story of this cover. Thanks so much...Vince Brennan vbren68745@aol.com..." [26JAN2004]

Note NOTICE: "...I am trying to see if there will be any 50th Anniversary celebrations of VXE-6 Operation Deep Freeze. My Dad (W/O Jock Niven) was the NZ liason officer in the RNZAF with the USN in Operation Deep freeze out of Wigram Airforce base, Christchurch. We had a lot to do with Deep Freeze and in a way I was the 'Baby' of deep Freeze (born exactly one month after VXE-6). We were especially friendly with LT Dan Sliwinski and remained so with him and his family. Also 'Slats' Slater took a silver certificate note to the pole and signed it for me as a present. I still have it. We still have a few photos of that era. One family story is Mum presenting a cake (made using a swan's egg) to a P2V7 crew for the filght back home. It turned out to be more appreciated than anticipated as there was a SNAFU and no rations were packed. The cake sustained the crew to Hawaii! Happy to hear from any Deep Freeze I and II personel...Richard Niven richard.niven@clear.net.nz..." [03JUN2003]
