A BIT OF HISTORY: Awarding Of The Plank "...This is in reply to Bob Bergstrom's request for information on his father Edward W. Bergstrom. His father was my Commanding Officer at FASRON-114 in NAS Kodiak, Alaska. I attach a letter he presented me and a picture taken of he and I at the presentation. I as a yeoman (former AOM and Combat Crewman) worked directly for him and can attest that, after serving for 20 years, LCDR (not LT) Bergstrom was a fine Naval Officer and treated all members of his command well as his letter to me testifies. The reference to the "Casino Bar" refers to a "jam" he got me out of. It will be interesting to see how many group members memories are jogged by the words "Casino Bar." Hope this helps his son put his fathers service in perspective...Fred Channell hiram2@ewol.com..." Forwarded by Bob Bergstrom pbybergstrom@comcast.net [27DEC2002]
A BIT OF HISTORY: "...The NAS Whidbey Island, Washington story left out quite a few patrol bomber squadrons as I went there in August 1948 and there was 3 squadrons of PB4Y-2 Privateers there. I was placed in VPHL-7, (9 Planes per squad.) Also 3 squadrons of P-2V Neptunes, VPMLs plus FASRON 112. The Privateers rotated to NAS Kodiak, Alaska and the Neptunes went to NAS Adak, Alaska, plus FASRON 114 was in NAS Kodiak, Alaska..." Contributed by W RAMON BALKCOM WRAMONBALKCOM@WEBTV.NET [22DEC97]

A BIT OF HISTORY: FASRON-114 History "...From an October 26, 1951 issue of The Kodiak Bear, I scanned a photo layout featuring FASRON 114. I was about four years old, living on base at the time and I have pretty good memories of the conditions there. I am sending, in emails that follow, six photos and a scan of the newspaper banner. The photo showing the maintenance officers with LT J.M. Clark: The officer on the far left in the gold braid hat is my father, Tomie Trotter, probably a Lt JG at the time. Tomie Trotter served on DD-579 William D. Porter during WWII - that is another story. He is now about 75 years old living on Vashon Island, Washington, (phone: (206) 463-9224 just in case anyone wants any Kodiak details). He had four sons, all served in the Navy...Lawrence Trotter ltrotter@sprynet.com , USNR 1965 - 1972, TAR Commmand Duty at Sandpoint NAS, 11/67 - 06/70 as Avionics and ASW tech , Stuf's, Stud's, P2V's, C54's, C118's, SH3A's..."
