BACKUN, Mark mbackun2468@msn.com "...I served with VAW-125 aboard the USS John F. Kennedy the 2nd and 3rd cruises. Transferred to NAS Norfolk, Virginia, then out in 1978..." [31DEC2008]

CRANMER, AE2 Jerry jerrysfree@gmail.com "...I served with VR-1. VR-1 was my first duty station after graduating from AE "A" school NAS Jacksonville, Florida. The year was 1966. I learned a lot working on those transport aircraft. We had C-118 four engine transports, and Convair 2 engine planes. One was the admirals private transport. After 2 years I was allowed to take the 2nd class PO exam. I passed the test, and was promoted! Little did I know, but the navy had another plan for me.I was shortly transferred to VAW-125 for sea duty. This was a new squadron with the navy's newly acquired E2A Hawkey aircraft. After completion of training on E2A "C" school we deployed on several carriers. USS America (CV-66), USS LEXINGTON (CV-16) and finally aboard the USS Saratoga (CVA-60). That cruise was the most memorable of my life . We were at sea for 9 months in the Med. I wanted to document this short history, because according to the navy historical society they have no records for these early squadrons. It's as if we didn't exist, according to their records. Well they did! I have many memories of the sailors I served with at the time. NAS Patuxent River, Maryland is still there. VR-1 is now stationed near Washington D. C..." [20MAY2024]

DANIEL, ADJ2 Tom "Dan" td27565@yahoo.com "...I was a 2nd Class Petty Officer (ADJ) with VAW-125 from 1971 until my discharge in 1972. I was working with the Line Crew. I made the 1971-1972 Med Cruise aboard the USS John F. Kennedy..." [14MAR2009]

GILL, ADJ3 Charles charliegill5389@yahoo.com "...I served with VAW-125 (1974-1978) as a Plane Captain. We received the Golden Anchor/Battle "E" and "S" (Safty Awards) and the Navy Achievement Award. I was aboard the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) when she collided with the USS Belknap (CG-26) in the North Atlantic on November 22nd, 1975. I would like to hear from former Shipmates..." [08AUG2012]

HIGHAM, AMSC(AW) Ronald J. Retired highamrj@caewwl.spear.navy.mil "...I started my Navy career with VR-51 at the now disestablished NAS Glenview, Illinois. Joined the World Famous Woodpeckers of VP-49 in September 1981 and made two deployments, NAS Sigonella, Sicily (How did the Marines Bulldog get VP-49 shaved in it?) and NS Rota, Spain/ NAF Lajes, Azores, Portugal (George Crook rest in peace)and transfered to VP-30. I was a member of the finest airframes workcenter from August 1985 to January 1989. (Thanks AMSC Marage for teaching me how an airframes workcenter should be ran). From there the tailhook Navy got me and have been there ever since. My first "hook" experience was with VFA-137 at old NAS Cecil Field, Jacksonville, Florida from May 1989 to December 1992. Made deployments on USS Coral Sea and USS Forrestal. (yep I missed the P-3) From there I left aviation and went to the surface/Gator Navy at ACU-4 at NAB Little Creek. Working with the LCAC and the surface mentality was different but I did meet and work with some fine people. February 1996 I checked into VAW-125 where I picked up Chief. ( I have more than one person to thank for that. To the "kids" that worked for me in the line shack - THANKS AGAIN.) I made deployments on USS Enterprise and USS Eisenhower. I am now on the staff at COMAEWWINGLANT in Norfolk. I'll have 21 when this is over but I'm still having fun and my wife and kids still support me. I see another sea tour on the horizon. Besides someone has to get my girls through college. To everyone I've served with over the years - thanks for the memories...." [10JAN2001]
