A BIT OF HISTORY: "...1957-1960--This was a reserve Weekend Warrior squadron flying P2V-5s (with jets) out of NAS Jacksonville, Florida. I was in this squadron from 1957 to 1960. While there, we did three two-week tours to Europe, one in 1957 and one in 1959, and one to Puerto Rico ( NS Roosevelt Roads, PR ) in 1958. The entire squadron flew the Atlantic via Bermuda and the Azores to NAS Port Lyautey, French Morocco on one deployment and to Rota, Spain on the second. It was great!! I navigated the squadron over on the 1957 trip. Then each (plane) took their own "navigation training" trip, and my plane went to Gibraltar, Madrid and Barcelona, Spain one year and Pisa and Rome, Italy the next. The liberty was excellent...In the early 1960s (Cuban crisis?) the entire squadron was activated....for 9 months I believe. That shook up a lot of lives. Several people, I learned, losttheir businesses, etc. It is a shame you can't tap into a correct, detailed history of each Navy Patrol Squadron including the Reserve units..."
