COONS, Bill bcoons@jaair.com "...During 1946 and 1947 I was a member of VU-7A at the Santa Ana Naval Air Station. We flew remote control drones TD2C Culver Cadets for fleet gunnery practice. I am writing a book on the subject and I wonder if anyone remembers me or can give me some information about the drone exercises. I need to know the procedures that were in place after the drones reached the target area and the duties of the mother planes at that point. Any information at all would help..." ELY, AD2 Laurence (Larry) llely@comcast.net "...I served with VU-7A and VU-1 1951 to 1952 at NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii where I was the Plane Captain of TBM-17 until they brought in 2 more JD-1s, which I was then Plane Captain of UA-4. Went to NAS Agana, Guam and was 1st Mechanic on a JD-1, then went to Miho, Japan to VU-5 Det. C where I took over as Plane Captain of UE-14. I was there when they shut down Det. C and went to NAS Atsugi, Japan where I remained until discharged in November 1954..." [13APR2006]

I served with VP-22 from 1960-1962 Crew 4 with LT Dwight Hahn PPC, Rags PC, and others whose names I have forgotten and VP-40 from 1957-1959. Years in between VU-7, VU-5 and irony VA-22. Loved the years in VP's, but on recollection wonder how we survived. Would like to hear from some old timers. Just retired from the Boeing Company..."
